Child development refers to the biological and psychological changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence, as the individual progresses from dependency to increasing autonomy. Because these developmental changes may be strongly influenced by genetic factors and events during prenatal life, genetics and prenatal development are usually included as part of the study of child development. Related terms include developmental psychology, referring to development throughout the lifespan, and pediatrics, the branch of medicine relating to the care of children. Developmental change may occur as a result of genetically-controlled processes known as maturation, or as a result of environmental factors and learning, but most commonly involves an interaction between the two. There are various definitions of periods in child development, since each period is a continuum with individual differences regarding start and ending. Approximate outline of development periods in child development. Some age-related development periods and examples of defined intervals are: newborn (ages 0–1 month); infant (ages 1 month – 1 year); toddler (ages 1–3 years); preschooler (ages 4–6years); school-aged child (ages 6–13 years); adolescent (ages 13–20). However, organizations like Zero to Three and the World Association for Infant Mental Health use the term infant as a broad category, including children from birth to age 3, a logical decision considering that the Latin derivation of the word infant refers to those who have no speech. The optimal development of children is considered vital to society and so it is important to understand the social, cognitive, emotional, and educational development of children. Increased research and interest in this field has resulted in new theories and strategies, with specific regard to practice that promotes development within the school system. In addition there are also some theories that seek to describe a sequence of states that compose child development. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are some good ideas for a toy project for a child development class? Q. I have to do a toy project for my child development class and I need some ideas. I have to make everything myself. Pieces cannot be store-bought (like a storybook or stuffed animal) and the toy's age range can be from 0-7 years old. Asked by Hayley B - Mon Nov 2 21:45:08 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I had the same project. I invented a baby musical onesie. It's an ordinary onesie (you can buy it or sew it), and there are different musical features. If the baby presses a button on the top of her foot, for instance, some soft music will start to play. On one wrist there is a jingly bracelet attached and there were other musical things in it but I don't remember. There were also different textures for the baby to feel. Ex one knee patch with silky material and another knee patch with crinkly material. You could make a onesie with a mixture of a large variety of textures: parts of silk, felt, corduroy, whool etc. Probably appropriate for ages 1-2 :) Hope this helps! Hopefully you do not attend the same school as me! :D Answered by lari_veggie_princess - Thu Nov 5 16:01:23 2009 Where can I find good sites about child development age 0-2 years? Q. Q. My child development psychology class professor asks me to answer this question and i have no idea how to answer it?! "Little Chanukah Howie has language development problem as well as a genetic disorder. He has gotten worse. Explain how the influence of nature vs. the influence of nurture changes as he gets older."? Asked by Cid - Mon Dec 10 03:44:49 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'm not to familiar with nurture, but I can give you a few aspects of nature of speaking. Human infants and other mammals have some similar traits which make speaking difficult, which are not present in adult humans. These are adult human traits that are not present in infants: 1) Lower placed larynx (more space and control) 2) larger spinal chord for better diaphram inervation If these traits If these don't happen, children may have trouble with speech.
