Q. the best over the counter prenatal vitamin to take I was also thinking of one a day prenatal?

A. Those are fine. They are actually pretty much all the same. There are standard guidelines for the recommended daily allowance for women when they are pregnant and any prenatals you are taking that are allowed to call themselves a prenatal supplement meet those requirements.

Do the prenatal have civil rights?

Are you taking any other kind of vitamin besides prenatal?
Q. i'm only taking my prenatal vitamin right now and it does not contain any omega 3 and i hardly ever eat any foods that contain omega 3 fatty acids ..i was wondering if i should start taking an omega 3 supplement along with my prenatal vitamin? i've heard that omega 3 is good for your babys brain development. I'm already 25 weeks pregnant now though, would they still help with the brain development?

A. Hi, I take a prenatal, as well as a blend called "Omega Mom" that I get at a local health food store. It is a blend of Omega 3 and 6. Not only is it good for baby's development, but it helps the moms cardiovascular system as well, and keeps blood pressure in check.

Will Medicaid pay for prenatal and birth if baby is given up for adoption?
Q. My sister is currently pregnant and her prenatal care is being covered by Medicaid (in Arkansas). My husband and I are planning to adopt her baby right at birth. Will Medicaid still cover the prenatal care and birth expenses, or will we be expected to reimburse these costs?
Asked by MSW - Fri Apr 4 20:13:25 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Absolutely. Medicaid can't deny her coverage because she plans on placing the baby for adoption. In fact, you don't even need to tell the hospital if you didn't want to although its much easier for you to have access to the baby. Good luck!!

How soon do you need a prenatal exam?
Q. If I am already taking prenatal vitamins, had my yearly pap and STD test a few weeks back, had two perfectly healthy babies before and am perfectly healthy in every way shape and form. How soon do I need to schedule a prenatal exam. By 15 weeks should be good right, although I could do it right now I don't want to because this is a small community and I am not ready to tell anyone I am pregnant yet. I want to wait till after my son's birthday in the beginning of july.

A. You should go now, just to be on the safe side. You don't have to tell anyone why, and it's illegal for the medical staff to disclose patient information.

Why is it that American men consider their children personal property?
Q. Why is it that American men consider their children personal property? Basically lawyers say that family court only cares about protecting the prenatal rights of the father. Even the law treads children as personal property of their father in the USA. In Japan they say that in most circumstances it is very impolite for a father to see his children after a divorce with out there mothers consent, and any man that does not respect that considers that child personal property. That is Japanese law and culture. Most man politicians in Japan even say the same thing. Those women also will not receive any child support.

A. I believe I just answered your other question, but this one makes the other a bit more clear. Unfortunately for you (I think), this is not Japan. Our legal system currently holds both parents responsible for their children unless one or both have been found to be unfit. Family court cares about protecting the rights of the child, and in this country that includes the child being allowed to see his or her father (if he is not abusive or otherwise an unfit parent). This view is basically the product of many unwed parents and terrible divorces affecting the way that parents take care of their offspring after a separation. Maybe the mother dumps the children on the father, maybe the father abandons the children. In either case, the… [cont.]

Is it possible to overdose on prenatal pills?
Q. In the morning, I'm super tired. I always forget if I've taken a prenatal pill or not. I'm not pregnant anymore, but I AM breastfeeding. I want my daughter to still get all the right nutrients and vitamins in her system. If I accidentally take 2 prenatal pills within an hour of each other, can I overdoes? Is it possible to overdose? *I'm putting it here because I know I'll get accurate answers.

A. Two prenatal vitamins shouldn't hurt you. But yes you can overdose on vitamins so I would just be careful. You would have to take quite a few of them to overdose. I learned all this from a class I went to. A lot of people don't like some of the children vitamins they have out now, like the gummy bear ones and there are some that are bubble gum, because children think they are candy and if they get a hold of them will eat a lot. They can overdose and potentially die from it. So I always warn people who I see that purchase this kind to make sure that you put them somewhere your little one can't get a hold of them. Congrats and good luck!

Are prenatal vitamins really all that important?
Q. I am 9 months pregnant and have been taking my prenatal vitamins my whole pregnancy. I just wondered if a pregnant woman ate right and did all the right things during her pregnancy but decided not to take her prenatal vitamins could she still have a healthy baby?

A. Yes, she could have a healthy baby, but it's better to have those supplements. Have you ever seen "I didn't know I was Pregnant"? Some of them partied pretty hard and had healthy babies. I'm not even planning to get pregnant for at least five years, but I still take prenatal vitamins.

How do i tell a friend that she should have regular prenatal visits?
Q. my best friend is 9 weeks pregnant and she feels that she doesn't need to go to prenatal visits her whole pregnancy. How do I convince her that she should go? or should I just let her do what she feels is right? She is taking prenatal vitamins!!!
Asked by lili - Wed Aug 12 18:56:39 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Why does she 'need' prenatal visits? The purpose of these visits are to check things she might already know, such as blood group, the possibility of sexually transmitted infections, or the fact that she is pregnant!! Some of the checks they do can be embarrassing and demeaning. Having check ups won't 'cure' a fetus if there is something wrong with it- it will just inform her that there may be something wrong with it, of which the chances are slim unless there is a history of something in the family. If she is okay with her baby potentially having a defect and not knowing about it until she gives birth- then good for her- it means she loves her child no matter what. Checks can also be an invasion of privacy- in the most private place of all! [cont.]

Are prenatal vitamins a good thing to take when you're trying ton conceive?
Q. My fiance and I have decided we're ready for a baby and I'm trying to make sure I have all the right vitamins and minerals in my diet. I still have a lot of prenatal vitamins left over from my first pregnancy, and I was wondering if they were a good source of vitamins and minerals while trying to conceive. My last pregnancy was over a year ago, and I haven't checked the date on the vitamins yet. I'll make sure to check that they're not expired. Thanks everyone!

What are your thoughts on prenatal screening for genetic illnesses?
Q. Do you think it's best or ethical to encourage prenatal genetic screening in order to select only healthy embryos? Do you think its right that embryos with certain genetic illnesses and disabilities should be born despite a lack of quality of life? I personally feel that its ultimately best to prevent children from having to suffer these diseases and to encourage parents to have healthy children. I'm not saying that these children cannot lead lives of some pleasure - but if we have to technology to avoid these illnesses then surely it is only moral to strive to give these children the best start in life as possible? A vast number of eggs and sperm fail to develop anyway, outnumbering all the people that have ever lived. Is it not best… [cont.]

A. I think this is one of the most ethical dilemmas we face. I know God loves every child conceived; but He also understands the difficult choices we human beings sometimes must make and forgives us when we fall short. I know first hand what life is like for a family with a severely handicapped member. I cannot harshly judge someone who feels they don't have the resources (emotionally, physically, etc.) to deal with such a situation. Godwin's law ?

Should father's have rights to their unborn child?
Q. I believe A father should have right in the say if the mother is going to keep there child or abort it. A father is responsible for Prenatal support but yet they have no say in apposing the abortion. How hard is it to carry a child for nine months then if the mother doesn't want it but the father does then give it to the father. Does anyone agree with me? I also believe that Abortion is murding a child. And if the mother can have a choice shouldn't the child too. Shouldn't the child decide if it wants to live?

A. I completely agree, I know so many men who have had their hearts broken when their babies were aborted without their opinions even being heard. I know women don't want to be told what to do with their bodies but you make a choice, that choice ends in pregnancy and that baby belongs in half to the daddy. Sure the next 9 months wont be pleasant but the dads should have a right as well.

My first prenatal visit was with my family practitioner. Should I see an ob/gyn also?
Q. This is my first pregnancy and had my first prenatal visit with my family practitioner. I had alot of blood tests done but still in the dark on whether I should keep shopping around for the right doctor to guide me through my pregnancy. Is an ob/gyn recommended over a family practitioner?

A. A family practitioner is trained for all aspects of family practice. Hence, they can see a person from birth to death. It's really your opinion that matters. If you feel confident in your doctor's abilities then stay. They're trained for OB/GYN so feel assured that he's qualified. Another scenario (like what happens in mine) is this: The family practitioner sees you for your initial visit and then you're referred to the OB in the clinic. That's how it worked for me since my FP dr was so overwhelmed in patients. Good luck to you and congrats!!

Does prenatal vitamins alter your cycle,as far as making you late? Do they cause increased sex drive?
Q. I'm not sexually active right now and not trying to get preganant. I was advised by a friend to take prenatal vitamins to increase bust size and promote healthy hair. I have been taking them for about 4 weeks now and my cycle is late and I have been experiencing an abnormal increased sex drive. My period is NEVER late until I started taking these pills!
