A child (plural: children) is a human being between the stages of birth and puberty. The legal definition of "child" generally refers to a minor, otherwise known as a person younger than the age of majority. "Child" may also describe a relationship with a parent or authority figure, or signify group membership in a clan, tribe, or religion; it can also signify being strongly affected by a specific time, place, or circumstance, as in "a child of nature" or "a child of the Sixties."

Definitions

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child defines a child as "every human being below the age of 16 years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier." Biologically, a child is anyone in the developmental stage of childhood, between infancy and adulthood.

Attitudes toward children

Social attitudes toward children differ around the world in various cultures. These attitudes have changed over time and in different historical periods. A 1988 study on European attitudes toward the centrality of children found Italy was more child-centric and the Netherlands less child-centric, with other countries (Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, and West Germany) falling in between.

A. We have to remember that when we try to keep children away from TV, Video Games, or computer games etc, we are in direct competition with those big people who have created & marketed those games. They are very intelligent, and know how to make money, so they are far more superior than us in attracting children towards those games than us, when we try to discourage children! The only advantage we have,( it is indeed a very big , significant advantage), is that the children are very much within our reach, and we love our children unconditionally. So, we have to maintain awareness of this advantage, and patiently explain the disadvantages of spending too much time on these games, using the stories of real life heroes, who perform well in… [cont.]

Did children have to work on farms during the time of the industrial revolution?
Q. I know children had to work in the factories, but did they have to work on farms? I don't think so, right?

A. As long as there was farming, children were working on them. The industrial revolution caused greater numbers of children to work in factories, but they also worked in shops and on the farms. People would have large families just to supply the labor force for their farms.

  • Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea...Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
  • You can't raise a child in a vacuum. All that carpet dust will clog up the kid's lungs.
