How can I get involved with a train advocacy group in Alabama - is there one?
Q. I'm a female attorney in Alabama and a few years ago, after a trip planned by my child, I fell in LOVE with the train. It was wonderful to sit back, relax and let somebody else wait on you, do the driving, eat pretty good and all while watching beautiful scenery go by. We stayed in first class which included an overnight compartment (one for the adults - one for the kids (teens). Since that trip, we have taken Amtrak several more times cross country and loved it each time. Sure, I can see the need for improvements, but given their lack of support it is remarkably well-run. What can I do to become involved in getting more routes through Alabama. Despite a beautiful train station - we no longer get train service in Montgomery - we have… [cont.]

A. It's good to hear that your trip aboard Amtrak was so enjoyable, Lisa. I don't think that Alabama itself has an advocacy group although you might want to consider joining a group like the NARP, the National Association of Railroad Passengers. The organization has been around for 40 years now and while it focuses on efforts to not only save but also promote Amtrak the group also looks out for passenger and commuter rail in general. Also, there was a group recently formed, the Sunset Marketing and Revitalization Team (SMART), that is focusing on trying to restore Amtrak's transcontinental Sunset Limited. Do you agree that the talk of immigration reform is just pandering to hispanics?
Q. The current administration knows that 80%+ of Americans are against allowing the illegals to stay, mst people in ameica want every man woman and child deported. The hispanic advocacy groups are always bugging people. There are over 1000 deportations every day of the week. The president couldnt just say "screw you guys we are deporting you" Partly because of PC and also because the criminal illegals love to riot (lakers event, washington etc) So do you think it was just pandering given it would be impossible to allow all these illegal to have a free ride.

Talk about immigration reform is all about politics. obama is trying to ignite latino interest because republicans are polling ahead for the november elections. there are ten democrats in the senate who would not vote for comprehensive immigration reform; clearly this thing has ZERO chance of passing.

A. I believe adoption is a truly good thing. Anti-adoption advocates are adoptees who think that their lives would have been so much better not being adopted. News flash, your birth parents gave you up so that you would not have a messed up life. So instead of sitting in a alley in a ghetto somewhere playing with broken shards of glass because the birth parents can only afford to live in area where homicide is an everday occurance, they were adopted by parents that lived in a good area where they could camp in their backyard and not have to worry if a stray bullet would kill them in the middle of the night.
