Corporal punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behaviour deemed unacceptable. The term usually refers to methodically striking the offender with an implement, whether in judicial, domestic, or educational settings. Corporal punishment may be divided into three main types:
The corporal punishment of minors within the home is lawful in all 50 of the United States and, according to a 2000 survey, it is widely approved by parents. It has been officially outlawed in 24 countries around the world. Corporal punishment in school is still legal in some parts of the world, including 20 of the States of the USA, but has been outlawed in other places, including Canada, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, and nearly all of Europe except the Czech Republic and France. Judicial corporal punishment has virtually disappeared from the western world but remains in force in many parts of Africa and Asia. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Don't you think that corporal punishment in schools should be banned altogether? Q. I know that according to the law (in loco parentis), the teachers fulfill the role of the parents while the kids are in school. However, there are some teachers and principals who go WAY overboard when administering corporal punishment. I have seen pictures on the Internet of kids with bruises and welts on their bottoms that resulted from paddlings in school. And not only that, but research has actually shown that paddling isn't an effective deterrent to bad behavior. Also, paddlings have been known to cause back problems for the victims years down the road. And even if the legal system does state that the teachers and the principals fulfill the role of the parents in the schools, the fact of the matter is that they are NOT the parents of… [cont.] Asked by tangerine - Tue Nov 14 11:08:16 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. yes. it should be banned. anyone who said that it shouldn't be wasn't in the right mind or else doesn't have moral. look at the children's right at the United Nations website. they're all there. it is considered illegal now to punish a child physically, especially that paddling which can cause severe damages especially if the paddler was so overwhelmed by his.her emotion that can cause her to strike harder. paddling is also used if you are going to enter a fraternity, many of college guys died because of paddling, search for it too. if you ever saw something like that again, or even any form of physical punishment being done to a child (18 and below are considered), then you should report it through the authorities. but search for it too, [cont.] Answered by raean31 - Tue Nov 14 11:20:44 2006 Should corporal punishment be reintroduced as a punishment for violent crimes? Q. I'm talking about judicial corporal punishment following a trial. Asked by Mark - Wed Jun 17 03:18:31 2009 - - 17 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, this is not going to happen soon in the UK. Just like capital punishment, we can argue about it, but the chances of being re-introduced are nil. I personally don't think that either should be accepted in a civilised society. Answered by Andrew L - Wed Jun 17 03:31:18 2009 How do you feel about corporal punishment for children?
Q. How do you feel about corporal punishment for pets? I'm kind of sort of in favor of it for children because humans have a higher reasoning but kids, I don't know. I would spank a kid for running out into the road, and I think I might not do it for a dog. Cat, no way. Does this mean I cherish kids more? I don't think so, I cherish them all. Thoughts? Asked by for da ben dan juan - Tue Nov 27 23:09:06 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have absoluetly no problems with spanking, time-out, and other reasonable means that will coach my children to behave and act like real humans and not like deviant demon children that will end up on Jerry Springer. Absolute love will discipline. I love my kids and will discipline accordingly. I will spank them in public and really don't care what others think. My oldest is a serious pain the butt and always has been. I used to be against spanking but he has changed my mind. By the time he was 9 months old that totally changed. There must be a build up to it for example. 1st offense - talking to and time out 2nd offense - immediate time out 3rd offense - spanking There are times when a spanking is warranted immediately.
