basic european travel advice?
Q. I have some questions about my trip. Some basic information: I will be traveling with my boyfriend. Our dates are flexible but we would prefer to travel near the end of summer. We don't have a set budget right now because we're trying to gauge how much money we will need for this trip. Any type of budgeting/financial advice would be very welcomed and helpful. First and foremost, does this trip seem realistic? Have I given enough days to each city? Are there any changes you would make to this trip based on past experience? Are there any specific things we should do or places we should see in each of our cities? Transportation: Would you suggest getting a eurail pass? If so, which youth pass would you recommend? I was thinking of either… [cont.]

A. As you have not given details about your plans as they stand now, I can only give you general information. If you travel in July or August you will need to make reservations, but even then you can do that by phone the night before you arrive in a town if you are flexible, September and later in the year you will still want to phone in if you arrive late in the day, but if you arrive early there is no need for that. Costs: Western Europe, hostels, doing your own cooking, spending little or nothing on transport and drinking, about 50 per person per day. If two share a cheap hotel room and are careful in eating out, 60 to 75. I budget 100 for myself nowadays, and if you can, you should do too, it is so much more fun if you do have… [cont.]

A. None of the schools in the US are cheap. However the very best such as Harvard have need based aid. This means if you don't earn much (usually under 60K) then they charge you zilch. However to get into such schools you need ot be a near perfect student. Thanks Bill

SEIZURES! please help?
Q. I am desperately trying to find out what is causing seizures in a 17 year old boy who lives in Haiti. I should mention that he lives in the north, and was not directly affected by the earthquake. I know he has had them since he was 7, and they're the 'grand mal' seizures. However he has not had frequent reoccurences. He said he would have them once every few months. He has had two in the past week, and yesterdays was worse than the first. He was struck by a car just before the first of the two most recent seizures took place, mind you he came out of it with only a scratch. Could he have been shocked from the experience? A. First off, please don't listen to this non-sense about intestinal parasites. This is dangerous misinformation. As someone with epilepsy I find it very offensive and irresponsible to reduce such a complex organ as the brain and a disorder such as epilepsy down to only mechanical causes and parasites. That said: If he has had them since he was young, I think the recent experience is a coincidence. At most, increased stress can trigger more seizures in an individual with epilepsy. If this has significantly bothered him, it can have brought on the event. everyone has different triggers. I don't react to sleep deprivation, or caffiene, yet others have one soda and boom. What is causing his siezures is a very hard question. Even if he got… [cont.]

Question for a youth girl's workshop?
Q. Hi all, I'm leading a small group workshop for a jr. high girls' church youth group event. My topic is on self image and I'm working on gathering information and advice on this. From a Christian perspective, what advice would you have for teen girls and their body image? Thanks! To the first person who answered: you call yourself an "atheist spammer" yet you refer to lucifer in your answer, and pledging your life to him... you realize by stating such a thing as that, you're not truly atheist--you've placed something above yourself? And I'd appreciate it if more people thumbs-down that response. Thanks!

A. My most important tip: You cannot afford to have an ego. Actresses are as common as oxygen -- and thus are replaceable. Talent is merely a matter of hard work and a willingness to let go of your pride and let yourself relax on stage and be in the moment. Other very useful stuff: * Take every role you're cast in during High School, even if it's "just" the Chorus. You'll learn. * Be a Stage Manager, at least once. You'll learn so much about the way things work in theater. * Work on the crew whenever you aren't cast in a show. Make yourself useful and the director will know you're reliable (and thus cast-able). * Learn everything you can about Lighting and Set Design. That way, even if you don't get a part, you can learn by watching… [cont.]

A. I got nominated last year as a freshman and this year as a sophomore. I didn't get a chance to go last year because I was going on a People to People Student Ambassador trip that summer. You should defiantly go if you have the financial means, I know I will be (if I have the money haha). I've researched it and it looks like a great experience and well worth the money. You shadow doctors, visit hospitals, tour medical schools, and have medical discussions with professionals in the field. But if you have the money, I would defiantly go!

A. I don't think it's worth dumping somebody who treats you good and cares about you for a person who didn't care at all. You're thinking about the good times with your ex. You can't forget about those bad times. What your ex is saying to you is most likely bull because he's probably asking you back for himself, regardless how you feel. Don't jump back into time, it's the worst you can do. Don't even bother being friends with your ex, you guys are history. Eventually, he'll find somebody he's comfortable with, also. Look forward to the future.

If you could give me any suggestions based on the following criteria, I would greatly appreciate it. 1. I live in Oregon (I would like to go to a relatively close school; i.e. WA, CA) 2. I would like to go to a liberal arts college or small university. 3. I would like to major in Physical Therapy, Communications or Journalism. I'm a skilled writer and love sports, so my ideal job would be a sports editor or columnist. 4. I play water polo, and would like to continue at either the intercollegiate, or at least the club level. 5. I plan to have about a 3.5 GPA, and an SAT score around 1840 (600 CR, 600 M, 640 W). 6. Problems with credit and buying a house, can you help?
Q. There is this house that I want to buy, its in the 160k range. I could easily afford payments but sadly due to some foolish credit blunders in my youth, my credit is not very good. Pretty bad in fact. Is there anyway I could show them my income versus obligations would allow me to easily afford the mortgage? I am also about to get married and my fiance had some bad luck with any injury that quickly put her in the hole credit-wise when she was only 19. Any help, advice, or directions on how to gain my own information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by Matt - Fri Jan 15 17:31:34 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the only way around your poor credit score is someone with a good credit score. if you have a family member yours or hers that might co sign on the mortgage, then you might have a prayer. even though you can afford it now, what happens if you lose your job like thousands of others. this is what your co signer must think about, as their credit will be in the toilet should you default. sometimes you just have to rent a house until you clean up your credit report and have a good down payment. hopefully in a few years the economy will be better, but for now, you can look into the co signer. first ask a mortgage company in your state if it could be done, before you put a family member on the spot. good luck
