A. Your child had a seizure, and seizures are quite common in very young children who have a very high fever. I do not anticipate that your child will have another seizure once her fever goes away and she is feeling better. After she is feeling better, just keep an eye on her to see if she is showing signs of developing abnormally compared to how she was before this illness. I really do believe she will be okay though.

What could Prez Bush be gaining by subverting the Constitution, the military and child health care?
Q. Hey, this is a serious question. I'm a lifelong Republican who is convinced Bush is doing what's right for the country. But his subversion of the Constitution, military and child health care is well documented; essentially a given. What I need is some confirmation, enlightenment if you will, on just what his motives are.

A. Money. His corporate sponsors can offer "contributions" to him and his party. The president also wants power. He and his cadre have resented the fact that ever since Watergate, presidents have "lost" (in reality, they haven't) power since the Watergate scandal and the Nixon affair. Cheney once claimed that it was his and Bush's "duty" to put more power in the presidency. He doesn't care about child health care. He does it to undermine Congress' authourity. He spent hundreds of billions on the military - yet just $35 billion on healthcare seems too much all of a sudden. No, we have a very greedy and power hungry man in power.

Increasing cigarette tax to fund child health care?
Q. President Obama just signed a bill to increase cigarette tax to fund child health care, the first step towards universal health care. Is this fair to those smokers who do not have children, never plan to have them? And why should smokers shoulder the entire burden? If somebody can't afford health care for their kids, stop having kids! agree? disagree? why?
Asked by I Try - Sat Feb 7 08:40:53 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The bill is stupid. There is no way the current number of smokers in the country could fund this bill. And the more they raise cigarette taxes, the more smokers will give up their habit. So how does that make sense to anyone with a brain? Does that mean Obama wants people to START smoking in order to fund it? Or is it... as is more likely the case... his way to slip the bill in, because after all who doesn't want to slam cigarette smokers more. But once the bill is passed and obviously not getting the funds it needs, then they can start taxing the rest of us even more. Because have you EVER known the government to stop funding their pet causes once they get a bill passed? No, they just raise taxes.

A. TPR or not? If TPR, NONE and chances are the bio-parents don't care anyway. By the time TPR has happened, the bio-parents have been given so many chances...in my opinion, if TPR happens, the bio-parents are so selfish and wrapped up in their own problems and issues that they probably can't and don't think about their children. If not TPR, they should definitely have a say in many things, UNLESS they are so abusive that they are dangerous and it is known that TPR is going to occur. Before my bio-parents had their rights terminated, I could not have different haircuts and could not have some dental work that I needed. The dental work was actually a medical problem, but it could not be done. IN my case, they could not find my bio-mothe [cont.]

Can my child get Medicaid or Child Health Plus?
Q. I live outside of the US right now for my husband's job. We are only in America for 2 months out of the year, but we're US citizens. Can my child receive Medicaid? We make a lot of money, but I don't want to get a regular insurance for only 2 months each year. Should I apply before my son is born or wait until he is born and we're in America? How long does it take to be accepted for the insurance? My husband and I have insurance here in Austria, but not in America. I have no idea where to begin with finding insurance for our son for 2 months at a time. Thanks to the few of you who decided to give rude advice. This question has nothing to do with being cheap. Is this hazardous to my child's health when i wrap their lunch sandwich in alumium foil?
Q. I usually wrap my child's sandwich (slice of bread and salami or ham etc) in aluminum foil. They prefer it this way because they say that the tables at school are so yucky. So they can unfold their sandwich and lay it down inbetween bites. I thought that was ideal, until somebody just told me that it was a health hazard because of the aluminum. is this true? what have you heard?
Asked by Priscilla L - Thu Feb 21 14:44:52 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well seeing how aluminum is sold as a food wrap, i'd say you are safe. now i can see how you may run into problems if you are heating things up in foil. regardless it can't be any worse than your kids drinking out of an aluminum pop can. try using wax paper or deli paper if it makes you that uncomfortable! you can get deli paper here they are pre-cut and perfectly sized for wrapping up a sandwich. good luck!

What is the age cutoff of a child's health insurance under parents plan?
Q. I just heard that President Obama signed into law that allows health insurance coverage for a child under a parents policy up to age 27. Is that correct?
Asked by Ed F - Tue Mar 2 09:00:49 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Have a check first with your insurance company or your insurance agent. It actually depends on the insurance that your parents enrolled but usually 22 will be the cut off. If in college, you can still be covered provided that the insurance is permitting it ;) You can also find additional information on this one when you read on this site that i use for insurance references ;) Hope this one helps! Goodluck on you :)

How do you get the IEP team to schedule the IEP when a child is struggling health wise & team is delaying?
Q. Our child qualifies under OHI and Speech & Lang. for an IEP. We have given several dates to meet for an IEP to talk about changes that need need to be made in his IEP. The school keeps delaying, and our child has already missed half the school year due to his disability and an inappropriate IEP. His health is getting worse everytime they are not following the IEP and continuing to delay holding a new one. What do we do?
Asked by cece - Sat Sep 13 11:14:00 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Under the federal law called IDEA, an IEP meeting must be held within 30 days of request. This request, as well as ALL other requests, should be done in writing. Now that they have been delaying and it is causing your child harm, I suggest writing a more detailed letter. Something like this: Dear Special Ed Director, On ___, 2008, I requested an IEP meeting to discuss my son's current placement and services. The school gave us a date of ___, 2008 but then cancelled and rescheduled for ___, 2008. This was cancelled as well and rescheduled for ___, 2008. Under IDEA, an IEP meeting must be held within 30 days of my request. It has now been ___ weeks/months. The district is out of compliance. If an IEP meeting is not held within 10… [cont.]

What Form Does An Elderly Parent Need to Fill Out to Give an Adult Child Access to Health Information?
Q. Is there a form that an elderly parent can sign to give permission for an adult child to (1) talk to doctors and/or nurses about the parent's health records, etc. and (2) make decisions for the parent if the parent's health becomes very frail? I'm not sure if a "Health Care Power of Attorney" does this. Your help is appreciated.
Asked by Hiroshima, Get Over it - Fri Feb 23 12:40:07 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A Durable Health Care Power of Attorney would be the place to start. Additional forms may be necessary, depending on your particular state laws. You will need at least three notarized originals - one for you, one for your parent, and one for your parent's doctor. If it were me, I would give a fourth notarized original to a trusted relative who doesn't live with either you or your parent. Before the time arrives that you would have to use it, make sure that you and your parent (going there together) give one of the originals to your parent's doctor, that your parent states their wishes (the ones in your question), and you confirm with the doctor that they now have all they need to grant those wishes in any circumstance. You need your… [cont.]

How the CAT scan during pregnancy affects the child's health in the future?
Q. I was 6.5 mo. pregnant when doctors scheduled a CAT scan on my lungs. At that time I had no clue about possible danger for my child. However now, after reading all these articles on the Web, my life could be described by one single word "FEAR". I'm afraid for my daughter now and most importatly for her future. People with similar experiences please be so kind and share with me how is your kids' health? I thank you in advance.

A. There are two things working in your favor here...you were past your first trimester (a fetus is more radiosensitive very early in a pregnancy) and the CT scan was of an area other than your pelvis. X-rays do not fly all willy nilly around a room. They are highly directed and concentrated beams of radiation, which expose only the area of interest...in your case, your lungs. Your baby probably got very little, if any radiation from this CT scan. I urge you to talk to your OB/GYN, as he/she can probably reassure you better than anyone on this forum. The following is taken from a website which has questions answered by qualified medical personel who are experts in radiation and it's effects. Here is what I found: "There should be no… [cont.]

Why should parents' rights come before the child's health?
Q. I believe a doctor should be allowed to do whatever is best for the patient without asking the parents' permission to do anything. They can be informed, but damn it, the child's health and well being should come before parental rights. My aunt is a nurse, and she's seen kids in terrible pain and doctors can't do anything about the pain because the parents are pondering whether anesthesia is good or not. It's sick parental rights come before another person's health and well being.

Is a minor child's parent required to provide health insurance for baby of minor child?
Q. My brother is divorced and pays child support and provides health insurance for his 2 kids. One of his minor daughters just gave birth to a baby. Will he be required to provide health insurance for the baby of his dependent, or will the State of Texas require the baby's father to "step up"?

A. Your probably going to have to look up the laws of Texas. I would think that the babys father would have to provide insurance not the babys grandfather. She can also apply for the state aid insurance.

A. It would have helped a lot of lower middle class families. Right now if you make less than 70k a year and live in the city you are probably not a homeowner and have little savings. SCHIP would have covered these people who are far above poverty, but below middle class. Its a shame that Republicans destroy Unions which provide health care, then they take away government help for working Americans.

My cousins always seem to be sick, just seem unwell quite often. There are no disadvantages to vaccinating your kids. I believe it to be un responsible.
