What could Prez Bush be gaining by subverting the Constitution, the military and child health care?
Q. Hey, this is a serious question. I'm a lifelong Republican who is convinced Bush is doing what's right for the country. But his subversion of the Constitution, military and child health care is well documented; essentially a given. What I need is some confirmation, enlightenment if you will, on just what his motives are.

A. Money. His corporate sponsors can offer "contributions" to him and his party. The president also wants power. He and his cadre have resented the fact that ever since Watergate, presidents have "lost" (in reality, they haven't) power since the Watergate scandal and the Nixon affair. Cheney once claimed that it was his and Bush's "duty" to put more power in the presidency. He doesn't care about child health care. He does it to undermine Congress' authourity. He spent hundreds of billions on the military - yet just $35 billion on healthcare seems too much all of a sudden. No, we have a very greedy and power hungry man in power.

Increasing cigarette tax to fund child health care?
Q. President Obama just signed a bill to increase cigarette tax to fund child health care, the first step towards universal health care. Is this fair to those smokers who do not have children, never plan to have them? And why should smokers shoulder the entire burden? If somebody can't afford health care for their kids, stop having kids! agree? disagree? why?
Asked by Sukotash - Sat Feb 7 08:40:53 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The bill is stupid. There is no way the current number of smokers in the country could fund this bill. And the more they raise cigarette taxes, the more smokers will give up their habit. So how does that make sense to anyone with a brain? Does that mean Obama wants people to START smoking in order to fund it? Or is it... as is more likely the case... his way to slip the bill in, because after all who doesn't want to slam cigarette smokers more. But once the bill is passed and obviously not getting the funds it needs, then they can start taxing the rest of us even more. Because have you EVER known the government to stop funding their pet causes once they get a bill passed? No, they just raise taxes.

A. Your child had a seizure, and seizures are quite common in very young children who have a very high fever. I do not anticipate that your child will have another seizure once her fever goes away and she is feeling better. After she is feeling better, just keep an eye on her to see if she is showing signs of developing abnormally compared to how she was before this illness. I really do believe she will be okay though.

Is this hazardous to my child's health when i wrap their lunch sandwich in alumium foil?
Q. I usually wrap my child's sandwich (slice of bread and salami or ham etc) in aluminum foil. They prefer it this way because they say that the tables at school are so yucky. So they can unfold their sandwich and lay it down inbetween bites. I thought that was ideal, until somebody just told me that it was a health hazard because of the aluminum. is this true? what have you heard?
Asked by Priscilla L - Thu Feb 21 14:44:52 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well seeing how aluminum is sold as a food wrap, i'd say you are safe. now i can see how you may run into problems if you are heating things up in foil. regardless it can't be any worse than your kids drinking out of an aluminum pop can. try using wax paper or deli paper if it makes you that uncomfortable! you can get deli paper here they are pre-cut and perfectly sized for wrapping up a sandwich. good luck!

A. TPR or not? If TPR, NONE and chances are the bio-parents don't care anyway. By the time TPR has happened, the bio-parents have been given so many chances...in my opinion, if TPR happens, the bio-parents are so selfish and wrapped up in their own problems and issues that they probably can't and don't think about their children. If not TPR, they should definitely have a say in many things, UNLESS they are so abusive that they are dangerous and it is known that TPR is going to occur. Before my bio-parents had their rights terminated, I could not have different haircuts and could not have some dental work that I needed. The dental work was actually a medical problem, but it could not be done. IN my case, they could not find my bio-mothe [cont.]

How the CAT scan during pregnancy affects the child's health in the future?
Q. I was 6.5 mo. pregnant when doctors scheduled a CAT scan on my lungs. At that time I had no clue about possible danger for my child. However now, after reading all these articles on the Web, my life could be described by one single word "FEAR". I'm afraid for my daughter now and most importatly for her future. People with similar experiences please be so kind and share with me how is your kids' health? I thank you in advance.

A. There are two things working in your favor here...you were past your first trimester (a fetus is more radiosensitive very early in a pregnancy) and the CT scan was of an area other than your pelvis. X-rays do not fly all willy nilly around a room. They are highly directed and concentrated beams of radiation, which expose only the area of interest...in your case, your lungs. Your baby probably got very little, if any radiation from this CT scan. I urge you to talk to your OB/GYN, as he/she can probably reassure you better than anyone on this forum. The following is taken from a website which has questions answered by qualified medical personel who are experts in radiation and it's effects. Here is what I found: "There should be no… [cont.]

Can the health visitor of a child in care disclose medical info on the mum to a 3rd person without authority?
Q. My daughters son had an accident and everyone has jumped on the abuse band wagon blaming the dad. The children's health visitor has written a report on my daughter and disclosed medication she has taken and details of medical conditions to social services. Can she disclose an adults info to a 3rd party without authority without the order of the court?

A. Absolutely not. Any medical documentation that has to do with your daughter, or anyone else, without specific permission from the party involved (being your daughter) - under no circumstance, can be reviewed by anyone other than her doctor. Medical records are strictly confidential. Any unauthorized viewing breaks that confidentiality. And since your daughter isn't the one involved in the accident, the care provider has no grounds to release any information to any party without consent. Especially since the care provider is a childcare provider. The only other exception that could be considered is that unless a court of law has ordered such information disclosure under the circumstance that there is undeniable evidence that your… [cont.]

What's the crime when a parent falsely commits a child to a mental health facility for ulterior motives?
Q. Mental Health Centers will often accept minors if their custodial parent commits them and has health insurance to pay for their institutionalization. But when the parent is not qualified to make such determination as to the true mental health of the child, what crime has the parent commit for orchestrating a false institutionalization? Can the mental health facility be held liable for accepting a healthy minor and forcing them into treatment and medication when the minor has no mental illness or psychosis and does not need treatment or medication? What is the body of law that governs patient rights of minors in this situation? The parent won't specify what they believe is wrong outside of claiming the child is having anxiety attacks,… [cont.]
Asked by John S. - Mon Jan 5 00:15:13 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Interesting question. It really depends on the motivations of the parents. Can you clarify? If it's for attention, the parents have Munchausen by Proxy. If they're trying get rid of the kid for a while, it's neglect or emotional abuse. If the mental health facility knows that the child is not sick and still institutionalizes him/her, then it's probably something like a civil rights violation. Either way, the Family Courts/Department of Child and Family Services in your area would be the place to start. But can you clarify more?

How do you get out of a rental lease when you feel your health and child's health is at risk?
Q. I moved from out of state for a new job only to discover the apartment I chose is located next to a nuclear plant, toxic dump landfill, and chemical plant. I am 7 months pregnant and have found startling statistics of rising cancer rates in the area and major complications from pregnancy related to the toxic zone. Anything I can do to get out of my lease and protect my health and my new baby's health? I signed a 13 month lease as of January of this year. Thanks! Yes, I had to do everything online and over the phone since I was out of state...it was brand new and actually quite expensive for the area...i had no idea there were 2 cooling towers in the distance till I showed up with the moving truck! A. If there is not a good reason why you did not know this information before, other than you just weren't aware, I don't really think there is a way to get out of the lease without paying what the lease asks for breaking it. Sometimes, there are loopholes for the first 30 days. You can see if you can sublease, or see if they are willing to only have you pay rent until they can find another renter. Or you can move, refuse to pay your rent and see if there is a class action law suit against the Nuclear plant, landfill and chemical plant that can pay your rent and all the costs associated with not paying your rent. (Go Erin Brochovich) Overall, I just don't think the apartment owners will be responsible for the fact there is a nuclear plant, [cont.]

A. If you go to your local Income Support Division (often called the Fodd Stamp office) you should be able to get Mediciade. They would still look at your income and/or ability to get insurance for your child. If you arent able to afford then your baby should qualify. The aplication can be rather lengthy and there will be an interview where you are able to explain your situation. As another poster mentioned you may also qualify for cash assistance if he isnt paying child support. (TANF) Either way they will most likely have a stipulation that you cooperate with your states Child Support Division, which is governed by the states Attorney Genrals office, which is a good thing. A. Have you got a library near you? My local library is great for NVQ + BTEC books specifically on Child's Development. I remember doing this essay years ago for my unit, think about before the child is even born. Could the mother smoking have an affect on the child's development later in life? I recommend using books rather than the internet, you can reference them properly and there is more information in one book than several internet sites.
