Research topic for PhD in child health and child care ?
Q. I've asked this before, but got no satisfactory answers. so I ask this again. I'm planning to do research on issues of child health, for my PhD. what are major issues pertaining to maternal and child health, both in the US and developing countries?
Q. I know that different countries, and cultures within countries face different problems when it comes to maternal and child health issues. I would like to find out what you think is the most important issue that needs more attention from the government, Non-profits and IGO's. thanks!

A. There are so many it's hard to know where to begin, and different countries have different issues. In the US, we have a significant gap in health care services for low-income people, women included. Many women without insurance delay prenatal care until the second or third trimester, which has an impact on birth outcomes-- specifically low-birth weight and pre-term birth. In other countries, sanitation is a big issue, especially clean water. It sounds very basic, but clean water is essential for good health, especially during pregnancy and for children. Famine is also a issue-- lack of water leads to famine as well. And, of course, lack of health care--- including the treatment of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and high blood… [cont.]

Is this hazardous to my child's health when i wrap their lunch sandwich in alumium foil?
Q. I usually wrap my child's sandwich (slice of bread and salami or ham etc) in aluminum foil. They prefer it this way because they say that the tables at school are so yucky. So they can unfold their sandwich and lay it down inbetween bites. I thought that was ideal, until somebody just told me that it was a health hazard because of the aluminum. is this true? what have you heard?
Asked by Priscilla L - Thu Feb 21 14:44:52 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. well seeing how aluminum is sold as a food wrap, i'd say you are safe. now i can see how you may run into problems if you are heating things up in foil. regardless it can't be any worse than your kids drinking out of an aluminum pop can. try using wax paper or deli paper if it makes you that uncomfortable! you can get deli paper here they are pre-cut and perfectly sized for wrapping up a sandwich. good luck!

Hawaii ending universal child health care. Is the government becoming more and more selfish?
Q. here is the story
Asked by on - Sat Oct 18 15:31:12 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I fail to see how you could attach the word "selfish" to the situation. It's simply a matter of whether it can be paid for. You see, barring a return of the institution of slavery, you can't have universal health care without paying for it. Those who argue that health care is a right, which it distinctly cannot be, forget that health care must be provided by somebody, and the health care provider must be paid.

What should come first - a child's health and wellbeing or their "academic" performance in schoolwork...
Q. If a seven-year-old child has been up much of the night and been having nightmares and is still looking peaky should the *first* thing a parent do is to ask him to fetch his schoolbag so she can see what homework he has and then tell him that they are going visiting today and he will have to sit and do the homework on Sunday upsetting the child after he has been relaxed at last after a troubled night and leaving him in tears as they get into the car? Can the health visitor of a child in care disclose medical info on the mum to a 3rd person without authority?
Q. My daughters son had an accident and everyone has jumped on the abuse band wagon blaming the dad. The children's health visitor has written a report on my daughter and disclosed medication she has taken and details of medical conditions to social services. Can she disclose an adults info to a 3rd party without authority without the order of the court?

A. Absolutely not. Any medical documentation that has to do with your daughter, or anyone else, without specific permission from the party involved (being your daughter) - under no circumstance, can be reviewed by anyone other than her doctor. Medical records are strictly confidential. Any unauthorized viewing breaks that confidentiality. And since your daughter isn't the one involved in the accident, the care provider has no grounds to release any information to any party without consent. Especially since the care provider is a childcare provider. The only other exception that could be considered is that unless a court of law has ordered such information disclosure under the circumstance that there is undeniable evidence that your… [cont.]

What Form Does An Elderly Parent Need to Fill Out to Give an Adult Child Access to Health Information?
Q. Is there a form that an elderly parent can sign to give permission for an adult child to (1) talk to doctors and/or nurses about the parent's health records, etc. and (2) make decisions for the parent if the parent's health becomes very frail? I'm not sure if a "Health Care Power of Attorney" does this. Your help is appreciated.

A. A Durable Health Care Power of Attorney would be the place to start. Additional forms may be necessary, depending on your particular state laws. You will need at least three notarized originals - one for you, one for your parent, and one for your parent's doctor. If it were me, I would give a fourth notarized original to a trusted relative who doesn't live with either you or your parent. Before the time arrives that you would have to use it, make sure that you and your parent (going there together) give one of the originals to your parent's doctor, that your parent states their wishes (the ones in your question), and you confirm with the doctor that they now have all they need to grant those wishes in any circumstance. How do you get out of a rental lease when you feel your health and child's health is at risk?
Q. I moved from out of state for a new job only to discover the apartment I chose is located next to a nuclear plant, toxic dump landfill, and chemical plant. I am 7 months pregnant and have found startling statistics of rising cancer rates in the area and major complications from pregnancy related to the toxic zone. Anything I can do to get out of my lease and protect my health and my new baby's health? I signed a 13 month lease as of January of this year. Thanks! Yes, I had to do everything online and over the phone since I was out of state...it was brand new and actually quite expensive for the area...i had no idea there were 2 cooling towers in the distance till I showed up with the moving truck! Bad Suprise!

A. If there is not a good reason why you did not know this information before, other than you just weren't aware, I don't really think there is a way to get out of the lease without paying what the lease asks for breaking it. Sometimes, there are loopholes for the first 30 days. You can see if you can sublease, or see if they are willing to only have you pay rent until they can find another renter. Or you can move, refuse to pay your rent and see if there is a class action law suit against the Nuclear plant, landfill and chemical plant that can pay your rent and all the costs associated with not paying your rent. (Go Erin Brochovich) Overall, I just don't think the apartment owners will be responsible for the fact there is a nuclear plant, [cont.]

Is a minor child's parent required to provide health insurance for baby of minor child?
Q. My brother is divorced and pays child support and provides health insurance for his 2 kids. One of his minor daughters just gave birth to a baby. Will he be required to provide health insurance for the baby of his dependent, or will the State of Texas require the baby's father to "step up"?

A. Your probably going to have to look up the laws of Texas. I would think that the babys father would have to provide insurance not the babys grandfather. She can also apply for the state aid insurance.

Do social conservatives know that it is better for the health of the child to have young parents?
Q. It seems like those of us who are waiting to have children until we are financially stable are at greater risk of having children with chronic diseases. The father's age is important to the health of the child. Autism, when it is not already in the family, is related to older fathers. So are many cancers, and other disease affecting the nervous system. Are women interested in this? There is much research over many years, but preventing disease is not financially profitable so it is under the radar screen. Younger does not mean teenage to me, it means 22-35. Older mean 36 and above.

A. Generally no, but some hospitals do have programs where they have a nurse come out if you had an early discharge from the hospital. Here you bring your child in to the doctor, rather than someone coming to you.

A. Have you got a library near you? My local library is great for NVQ + BTEC books specifically on Child's Development. I remember doing this essay years ago for my unit, think about before the child is even born. Could the mother smoking have an affect on the child's development later in life? I recommend using books rather than the internet, you can reference them properly and there is more information in one book than several internet sites.

who is responsible for paying health insurance for a child in a divorce?
Q. If the court orders that I pay a certain amount in child support and that both the petitioner and respondent each pay 50% of all unreimbursed medical, dental and orthodontia expenses incurred on behalf of the minor, does that mean that we are both responsible for half of the health and dental insurance?
Asked by es888 - Mon Aug 18 18:51:52 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would think who ever can get it the cheapest. Surely you would want your own child have medical coverage. 50/50 sounds fair if you have 50/50 time with the boy. If not then I think whoever has him and is actually the parent (you can't be a parent when you are with him only four days a month) should pick up the medical tab. After all they are the ones who will be making the medical decisions.

A. Any child during their growing years needs calcium, iron, potasium,B complex. Organic is good but expensive for a child(picky eaters). So given the choices you put forth I would say at least until 13 D would be the answer. At 13 they can tell you what they do and don't like.

So congress adds 1 trillion to the debt ceiling and Bush is against child health care expenditures??
Q. What is the difference. 1 trillion added to total possible debt and Bush complains about a few billion? This makes no sense to me at all. the question is how much difference does a few nickels make when you are dropping 20 dollar bills. I guess I am completely inept at asking a question. The question is getting at whats the big difference by adding a few billion when you are adding trillions?
