Best way to become more flexible for dance?
Q. I'm semi-flexible thanks but not nearly as flexible as I would like to be. I've recently become interested in Contemporary/Modern dance and flexibility is key for it as well as strength. I've taken a year of ballet in the past and 3 years of jazz so I do have a little dancing history. Any tips to become more flexible and stronger? I'd love to be able to bring my leg right beside my head standing up.

A. one thing to be strong and flexible is having a strong core. 20 crunches before bed or when you wake up are great. put on your favorite song and isolate your body then start to streatch, once you're really into it and you feel warm (No air conditioning or sitting alowed!) start doing lunges, toe touches, splits, leaps, batmas, and anything that can really bend you. don't push too hard in the begining but start bringing it up a knotch. you really need to be commited. don't slack off. after doing that once a week for half a year i got so much improvement, and now for doing it for 3 years almost everyday i've really become flexible. don't slack off!

How do I get my back flexible enough so that I can hold the blade of my skate in a spiral?
Q. How do I get my back flexible enough so that when doing a spiral, where my leg is up high, I can grab hold of the blade and skate like that, being upright though?? I need help with that. My back is not flexible enough at the moment, and I need to get it flexible enough so that's possible. Any tips and tricks, ideas and suggestions? Please help!

A. Warm up really well and then practice doing "bridge" stretches on the floor. You lay on your back, put your feet on the ground, and your hands above your shoulders on the ground. Push your body off the ground and arch your back. Another exercise is to use a big balance ball to do "roll overs" letting your back arch over the ball. Do stretches every day after warming up and after skating. You'll see your flexibility improve quickly.

A. Just stretch every day. Splits: Stretch the groin muscles. Do lunge stretches. Try to warm up before stretching, like jogging for 5 to 10 minutes or something. stretch the back of your legs (hamstring) while sitting with your legs spread outward. as soon as you can touch your head to your knees on both sides, try doing the splits. It will be uncomfortable at first but after about three days you should be able to sit in them comfortably. Make sure you hold the stretches for at least 30 seconds to a minute. As you start stretching you will probably be sore for a few days so just ice your legs. It took me about three weeks to get my splits. A. Take adavantage of that great benefit. Look back over the years and see what you spent on healthcare. If you are worried, then guess a little lower than that. If you usually meet your deductible every year, start with that amount.

A. Flexible spending account is also been referred to as Section 125 plan or cafeteria plan. If it is an employer provided benefits and not include such amount in taxable income, you have to reduce the amount of expenses eligible for the credit by the amount excluded from income. If there is an amount of child or dependent care benefits shown in Box 10 of your W2, you will have to complete Part II of form 2441 or Schedule 2 if you are filing 1040 or 1040A, respectively. Part of the benefit might be taxable. If the benefits provided exceeds the smallest of 1. amount of your qualified expenses 2. lesser of the tax payer's or the spouse's earned income or 3. $5000 ($2500 if married filing separately). How flexible is the realtor's commission when selling our house?
Q. We originally said 6% is fine, but the realtor said when we were going over this - it is flexible. How likely would it be that she would lower it to 5% or 5.5% thanks! Also, if we originally signed paperwork saying we agree to 6% when we sat down to get our condo listed, can it be revised to a lower %. I don't think we are locked into 6% are we. A. It is usually the listing agents commission that you are negotiating. The selling agent (who has the buyer) expects a full commission. If three percent is the typical split for the buyers agent, I would only expect the listing agent to discount their fee so much before it starts to seriously affect their efforts to market your home. If you have already signed a listing agreement, you may be stuck with the 6% for the time being. If it doesn't sell. you might consider one of the flat fee deals and offer a bonus for the selling agent. Lets say you can list it for $495. Then you offer 4% to an agent who brings you a buyer. That saves you 2% less the $495. MLS sells houses. Get creative if it starts to take longer than you would like to get… [cont.]

Q. Why are some people flexible while others are not? For someone who isn't flexible, can they become flexible? If so, what are some exercises to become more flexible? Is it possible for a guy to be flexible?

A. Yoga and pilates are both excellent in keeping you limber and strong at the same time. If you have On Demand at home they have free videos for both in the workout section, or you can rent a yoga book from the library. Its very good for your body and it will definately make you more flexible. Also stretch before and after you run always so your muscles dont tighten up and get sore.
