From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Humans are a species of animal known taxonomically as Homo sapiens (Latin: "wise man" or "knowing man"), and are the only extant member of the Homo genus of bipedal primates in Hominidae, the great ape family. However, in some cases "human" is used to refer to any member of the genus Homo. Humans have a highly developed brain, capable of abstract reasoning, language, introspection, and problem solving. This mental capability, combined with an erect body carriage that frees the hands for manipulating objects, has allowed humans to make far greater use of tools than any other species. Mitochondrial DNA and fossil evidence indicates that modern humans originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago. With individuals widespread in every continent except Antarctica, humans are a cosmopolitan species. As of May 2010, the population of humans was estimated to be about 6.8 billion. Like most higher primates, humans are social by nature. However, humans are uniquely adept at utilizing systems of communication for self-expression, the exchange of ideas, and organization. Humans create complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families to nations. Social interactions between humans have established an extremely wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which together form the basis of human society. Humans are noted for their desire to understand and influence their environment, seeking to explain and manipulate natural phenomena through science, philosophy, mythology and religion. This natural curiosity has led to the development of advanced tools and skills, which are passed down culturally; humans are the only animal species known to build fires, cook their food, clothe themselves, and use numerous other technologies. Any tips to keep the human body temperature optimum. Asked by Sebastian Alex - Sat Jul 11 22:07:21 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. If outside temperature is lower, best way to keep optimum temperature is to cover as much exposed skin surface as possible, and to intake more calories. Calories are what we need for energy, and some of the energy we get from calories goes into heating the body, since a majority of our body's composition is water. if outside temperature hotter, expose more skin surface area, as it will increase the surface area that can help to dissipate heat. body regulates it's own temperature in cold by lessening blood flow to extremeties like the limbs so less body heat is lost to the outside environment. most of the blood would be isolated at the core of the body, basically the trunk, and some to the head. when it's hot, the opposite happens as more… [cont.] Answered by car_fanatic83 - Sun Jul 12 02:32:35 2009 How does a human become a cannibal? Q. What are some of the causes of human cannibalism? I know it might be a little bizarre that I ask this, but I am just very interested in subjects and human behaviors. And also, if you know, can cannibal's actually control who they would devour or do they go nuts on every human they see? Thanks Anyone! Asked by Alexia The Vampire - Wed Jun 17 20:36:54 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Most cannibalism is Ritualistic or Religious. But there are some disorders like Pica, where you become compelled to consume something, not because it tastes good, or that it sustains you, but because you HAVE to. Q. How many pounds of pressure does it take to break a human bone? In more detail, the thickest bone we have, how may pounds of pressure? Is it possible for a human to actually bite through a human bone? Please, i need some concrete answer and if possible proofs or links to websites. Asked by Efra - Mon Oct 8 01:33:12 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The human hand is capable of exerting up to around 40psi. a well trained dog can bite at around a max of 300 psi. clearly the human jaw is stronger than the hand but much weaker than a dog jaw. id say somewhere around 100psi for a very powerful human bite. Could 100psi break a bone? some yea but oddly enough, twice as much force is required to break the scaphoid bone (tiny wrist bone) as to break one of the bigger forearm bones. If some other force was applied, such as a punch or kick to the jaw, this could produce the extra force required to break larger bones, probably breaking the jaw as well. I doubt even a dog could break a large femur bone due to the thick muscle and tissue protecting it. My unscientific conclusion is the most… [cont.] Answered by AlCapone - Mon Oct 8 02:23:33 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "human" Kern County "Bull Fire" Said to Be Human Caused - KMPH Fox 26
