FrenchNouninstitutions f. pl.
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Institutions are structures and mechanisms of social order and cooperation governing the behavior of a set of individuals within a given human collectivity. Institutions are identified with a social purpose and permanence, transcending individual human lives and intentions, and with the making and enforcing of rules governing cooperative human behavior. The term "institution" is commonly applied to customs and behavior patterns important to a society, as well as to particular formal organizations of government and public service. As structures and mechanisms of social order among humans, institutions are one of the principal objects of study in the social sciences, such as political science, anthropology, economics, and sociology (the latter being described by Durkheim as the "science of institutions, their genesis and their functioning"). Institutions are also a central concern for law, the formal mechanism for political rule-making and enforcement. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is there a difference between financial institutions and economic institutions? Q. I know that financial institutions may include banks (the bank of england / commercial banks), insurance companies, stock markets but I was wondering if economic institutions are classed as the same things? Nor have I, that's what's confusing me! Asked by carlene_xo - Tue Jan 13 09:18:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Sorry; I have never heard the term "economic institutions" I'll see what I can learn. Here s one definition, but it seems pretty loosey-goosey These sites seem to think they are the organizations that study economics: These sites seems to think they are any institution that is not either a social or a political institution and here s some that seem to know that that phrase must mean something, but aren t terribly sure exactly what it might be Well, that phrase looks like another one of those combinations of words that seems like it ought to mean something real, without forcing the user to be pinned down to much of anything specific. These sorts of things are really popular with academics and politicos, but doesn t… [cont.] Answered by wilderwriter - Tue Jan 13 09:25:59 2009 How do you think social institutions influence and shape individuals? Q. I'm trying to apply for student loans, but my parents don't want to cosign because they don't want anyone checking their credit score. Which makes sense because apparently your credit score goes down a little every time someone checks it. Do financial institutions (banks, credit unions, private orgs like Sallie Mae) always run a credit check on a loan cosigner, or are there some that don't? Asked by Amyra - Thu Jun 24 02:23:05 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your parents won't have to cosign for federal loans - you'll be able to obtain those solely in your name. If you're applying for private loans and must have a cosigner, then yes, the financial institution is going to always run their credit (otherwise, how would they know they were an appropriate cosigner?). Lenders want to know that if you aren't able to pay the money back then they can go after your cosigner... and they want a cosigner with great credit. Plus, the cosigner has to qualify for the loan just as you do because the reasoning for a cosigner is that you didn't qualify - now you need someone who does qualify to back you up.
