Modern history, or the modern era, describes the historical timeline after the Middle Ages. Modern history can be further broken down into the early modern period and the late modern period. Contemporary history describes the span of historic events that are immediately relevant to the present time.

The beginning of the modern era started approximately in the 1500s. Many major events caused the Western world to change around the turn of the 16th century, starting with the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, the fall of Muslim Spain and the discovery of the Americas in 1492, and Martin Luther's Protestant Reformation in 1517. In England the modern period is often dated to the start of the Tudor period with the victory of Henry VII over Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. Early modern European history is usually seen to span from the turn of the 15th century, through the Age of Reason and Age of Enlightenment in the 17th and 18th centuries, until the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the late 18th century.

How is the modern man to read the Mixed Messages from todays woman?
Q. Are we providers or partners? Soul mates or survivors? If a woman is to provide a literal womb, is a man to provide a financial womb? Does equality mean equality of choice and opportunity? Are we gentlemen, or just hapless mugs who take every risk to win a woman with no guarantee we can keep her? Are women addicted to the old ideals of chivalry and security, whilst demanding the modern choices of equal opportunity in the workplace, equal wages, and equal say? How is a modren man to react to such mixed messages?

A. This is the biggest problem I've had with feminism. Yes, many women will fight for equal rights when it comes to job opportunity and things like that, but the minute you start trying to take away chivalry, they'll drop the equal treatment talk in a heartbeat. It IS mixed messages. This is why I quit listening to society's messages to me. I do my own thing. If a woman likes it, that's great. If she doesn't, it's not my problem. I'll make compromises if she will, but I'm not changing my entire character to suit a woman. It's not like I see women doing it for men. I don't really expect them to do so for me actually. Why do women expect me to change for them (or a lot of them seem to)?

What was baseball and its rules like during the pre modern era?
Q. Whenever i ask a question about baseball , people always separate the modern era and the pre modern era. Why? What are the pros and cons to the pre modern era and the rules of the game at the time? Do you think the games rules are better now or before? and why?

A. Before 1900 the rules changed quite a bit. Here are just a few of the rules that were in place at one time. The pitching mound was closer. At various times it took 5, 6, and 7 balls for a walk. The batter could request where he wanted the pitch. You could throw the ball at a runner to get him out. If a fielder caught the ball on a bounce the batter was out.

How can I mix my modern writing style and imput with a midevil setting and plot?
Q. I love midevil based stories, but I have so many modern opinions I like to put into my writing, plus my style of writing is not very midevil-ish. If you could hint me in the right direction (with out giving me the answers cause i want to write this myself) that would be amazing. Please and thank you! =)

A. This is a delicate balancing act, since the speech patterns that were acceptable in times past now sound stilted and even pedantic to modern readers. For instance, back in Charles Dickens s day, contractions were used only by the lower classes. But to write dialogue sans contractions nowadays sticks out like Ebenezer Scrooge at the office Christmas party. It s important to develop a good ear for the rhythm and flow of period dialogue, by reading extensively in period literature. Some people have had excellent success mimicking period dialogue (Patrick O Brian comes to mind), but usually it s best to find a happy medium. Give your dialogue just enough of an antique flavor to keep the reader in the period without bogging him down in alien… [cont.]
