How do you figure out the possible offspring for a male with a y-linked genetic disorder?
Q. A male contains a Y-linked genetic disorder and mates with a healthy female. What percentage of the female offspring would contain the disorder? What percentage of the male offspring would contain the disorder?

A. Males are XY and females are XX so the female offspring have no Y and so 0% disorder. Male offspring (XY) will all have a Y from their father and so =100% disorder.

A. Since there is incomplete dominance displayed, you can tell that the red and white flowers are homozygous for their respective colors. The cross of red and white flowered snapdragons would be as follows: ...W...W... R...RW RW R...Rw rw r represents the allele for red color, W represents the allele for white color. You know that each parent flower is homozygous because RW (heterozygous) would yield a pink flower. There is no completely dominant allele. Thus, the only way to have a red flower would be RR and white flowers must have the genotype WW. This being said, the above cross will be the result of a red and a white parent mix. All offspring will have a RW genotype, which translates into a pink flower (phenotype).

Recessive alleles are symbolized by the lower-cased letter. Recessive traits require that 2 copies of the recessive allele be present. So the albino geneotype is bb. The purebread brown deer genotype is BB. We know this because all of the offspring of albino x purebred brown are brown. bb (albino) x BB (brown) = Bb heterozygous but brown because there is only 1 copy of the recessive b allele.
